Gods Will For Man: Willing to listen...

By Joshua Mumphrey
Christian Columnist

The strong willed woman with unwavering trust in God, is someone the family held close to for comfort.
Throughout the good and bad, happy and sad, this remarkable God-fearing woman was always there to lend a hand…
Those very same hands she extended unconditionally don’t work as well as they once did, and those feet she used for traveling and ministering are weak, unsteady and worn.
Those wise words of wisdom she gave, don’t seem to come out as clear or as often now days, but within her heart is joy and love of God which assures a better and brighter tomorrow regardless what she faces today.
This mother and grandmother named Mary, is the foundation of our family and has endured so much in the past few months. From the horrifying rush to the hospital late one afternoon and the safe and settling return home, she has remained in Gods hands and grace, lifted up in “prayer” something she adamantly taught her children to do everyday of their lives.
Three strokes and a heart attack later, my grandmothers condition has taught us a lot about ourselves we wouldn’t have known otherwise. We are reminded to be closer, to love deeper, acknowledge God more and most importantly pray. Prayer is one of the most important parts of a Christians life and it’s something we all must do regularly when our minds are burdened and our faith is weak. It provides spiritual and emotionally healing that only God can bring.
Trials come not to hurt but to teach and to mold us into the kind of Christians God wants us to be. There is always a reason, a lesson in which God wishes us to learn or a purpose he wishes to manifest and fulfill in our lives. It is in these circumstances that we are more open, vulnerable and dependant on a higher being than ourselves. In some cases we are drawn back to Christ, like a lost lamb that was once separated from it’s good Sheppard.
The journey of being a Christian doesn’t always come without casualties, the Holy Bible is a testament of that truth, but it doesn‘t mean God is angry or unkind. It’s his love for us that he sends us through to make us polished pure as gold, after being tried in life’s raging and fiery furnace.
We must remember, that sometimes this journey is a lonely walk and that we all must take each step at a time, day by day, month by month, even year by year. The path does get easier, even though it seems that road blocks are at every turn. Try focusing on God and God alone. His direction never falters, allowing grace to follow as you reach your destination.
When you have done all you can surrounded by pressure and problems, consider asking God a simple question. “What is it lord, through this situation or circumstance that you wish to teach me?
Don’t worry, He’ll answer. You just have to be willing to hear his voice and listen.

Food For Thought: A little slice of heaven on earth

By Joshua Mumphrey
Christian Columnist

Dinners have always been a big part of our family and our tradition like many. Tables lined with beautiful décor, overly polished sliver wear and even matching lap napkins, would often display the seriousness and planning that went into a single evening meal.

It seems that I can still taste and smell the food even now filling the house on those long hot summers, with fresh baked bread hot out of the oven served with nicely chopped vegetables and a mouth watering steak. Oh boy, don’t I miss that good home cooking, but I also miss something a bit more.

It was always such a joyful time to laugh, cry and laugh some more. It was a great time to spend with family and friends seated all around passing well prepared dishes across the table. It was something I’d like to call, my little slice of heaven on earth.

I cherish those moments now days, not just because of the food, don’t get me wrong it was delicious, but it wasn’t what made those times so memorable. It was the time that we shared together and how much fun we had with one another. It was a perfectly healthy  recipe for happiness served with a side of laughter. I heard it’s good for the soul.

When we left at the end of each evening, we could honestly say we were full in mind and in body caught up in joy, but sometimes in life as much as we don’t want them to, things do change…

Several times in our lives we get a little complacent, and like myself a little to busy, a little too tired or swamped to care or notice. We often lose the closeness, the connection we once had by the unwanted and overbearing problems we face daily.

It gradually grows to seeing one another once a week, to twice a month and maybe three times a year. Conversation by phone just aren’t what they use to be. You can feel the distance between you gradually growing, but you’re to caught up, to bother and stressed out, so you just deal and do nothing.

This is the most common flaw in families not just in the country but in the world. We get so focused on what we can provide for each other or what’s healthy for our physical bodies, instead of focusing on what nutrients are best for our emotional and spiritual growth.

Things like a simple prayer and faith in God can help restore and remind us of what matters most. We must try doing things a little different, rearranging are hectic schedules, pushing those heavy overbearing to-do’s around, making enough time for our families.

You have to ask yourself, we all do at some point or another “What matters most in my life?” Once you truly sort through everything even the little pieces, you’ll find that closeness, that joy and happiness that was lost.

Out of everything I’ve learned about family and the many dinners we’ve shared throughout the years, is that I’m more than ever satisfied not by the natural, but by the emotional and spiritual food in my mind and thoughts. I know, they will never leave me hungry or in need for any other theoretical meal again.

It’s  the kind of food that’s priceless and hassle free. You just can’t help but enjoy!

It's good to be back...

Hello everyone, I sure hope I didn't keep you all on edge, but life got a little busy and had me kinda spread too thin. I'm back now, and ready to share stories of inspiration, hope and faith once again. God is my guide and through his gift and direction, I plan to share his messege with you all.

Thanks for reading, God Bless.

Word of Wisdom: Forgiving...

"Forgiving isn't forgetting, so some say, but if you can never forget have you truly forgiven?" - Joshua Mumphrey

Word of Wisdom: HOPE

"Hope is something we must never misplace, remembering that it is always right there in our hearts and minds for all-time." - Joshua Mumphrey

COLUMN: A Clearer Perception Through Christ

I’ve been a little off lately. Well, I mean my vision has that is… but with that said, it has kind of affected my daily routine to say the least. Even now, writing this column, I’m having a little difficulty straining to see as best I can. I don’t exactly have the time to do anything about it right now, but why not?

That’s actually a good question to ask, and it’s also the perfect point to exercise. Honestly, I’ve always knew that my vision wasn’t the best growing up as a child, even as early as kindergarten. And yes, I’ve even tried the glasses thing, but personally, it’s just not me… So here I am many years later, my vision getting worse, eventually to the point of a much needed, extremely prolonged, but inevitable trip to the eye doctor. It’s something that I just have to face even though it’s not what I want. It’s what works, and that’s what’s most important.

This brings me to the point. In our lives, particularly spiritually, our vision gets clouded and at some point or another, we are unable to identity what we so desperately need to acknowledge. This poses quite the problem for ourselves and those we are around.

On the natural, vision is thought of as important. An absolute. A must have. Without it, the simplest of tasks can become, literally stumbling blocks in our path. The same is so, for us spiritually. If we attempt metaphorically, to drive with good intention, but without a clear vision which is ultimately direction, the destination will end in destruction of some sort, or possibly tragedy.

My advice to all of you, as well as to myself, “When there’s slightly a lack of judgment, or an inkling that something is amiss, do try and correct the problem while there’s still time.” God is a God of guidance and good direction, but most importantly “clear vision.” Whether, we are losing sight of what’s right or either unwilling to face a particular fact, we must remember, that God is like the good doctor, who tends to his patients every need. You just have to be willing to ask for help, and a clearer perception through Christ.

COLUMN: A house is not a home, without Christ

Have you ever at any point and time, stopped to think, “where is my life headed?” Or maybe, “why do I feel alone and empty, even though, I have the perfect family, job and home? For starters, the perfect home for some lower, middle and even high-class families, are only defined from an sociological viewpoint, not a spiritual one. This particular method poses quite the problem for skeptics, individuals who are primarily attending church services based upon societies standards, not God's, ultimately disregarding the most important part; discovering faith in Christ Jesus.

It is truly a blessing to gather your family together on Sunday morning, reading, listening and learning the works and will of the lord, but why practice such things openly among your friends and members of the church, when in all actuality, it’s just an image, a façade used to satisfy those around you. Faith and trust in Christ is infinitely more than just a frequent trip to Church. There’s the road to forgiveness one must travel, before arriving at the ultimate destination, Heaven.

Christ speaks in the Holy Bible, to train up a child so that they may know the way and grow with him, never forgetting the word and Christian teachings of his Father. A strong and healthy family, is one that prays and practices such things. They must cherish God, keeping their roots deep in Christian soil, growing, and producing good fruit. A single bad seed can sometimes destroy the crop, but properly tending and clipping the vines, can result in promise and prosperity.

Children are the future of the next generation, maintaining and building a solid foundation for them to stand upon, is very imperative. God wishes we teach our children in their youth, to reverence him in all their works and ultimately their lives. “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for such is the kingdom of heaven,” states Jesus Christ, in Holy scripture. A family that prays together, definitely stays together, growing, exploring and establishing their faith as a whole.

Gods primary purpose in a sense, for promoting togetherness, associates itself as being on one accord as stated in scripture, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” This is particularly important for our daily lives and endeavors. God is willing to give according to your faith, yes, but also uniting as one and praying together as a family, can help move God, ultimately leading to your answered prayer or request.

Family comes first in the natural blind eye, but once enlightened with the proper values and priorities, you will be able to see beyond the veil of self, gaining incredible perception and detail into Gods Will. The Heavenly Father intends and prefers that we meet the personal needs of our families, but what he so desperately wants us to first acknowledge, is that a house is not a home, without Christ.

COLUMN: Truly Expecting Change

When I speak, I speak from personal experiences in my life. The struggle to do what’s right, and the ever nagging instinct to do what’s wrong…

I found recently, that the choices we make defiantly have their share of consequences, for better or for worse. The will and determination to stay on the straight and narrow can be clouded by darkness and despair, but in such times we must remember God and hold fast to our faith and his word.

God truly knows and hears each and everyone of his sheep regardless their physical, emotional, and spiritual state. I must say, “God has a way of getting our undivided attention when we turn our faces from him.” The fulfillment's in this world through earthly pleasures can never mend the void of our personal savior Jesus Christ.

Christ came into this world to restore what was broken. He is the answer to our every question, and to our every doubt. Jesus is the giver of peace, hope, and love to the broken hearted and lonely. There is no greater love than that of the father and his precious son.

It is human nature to be tempted, angered, and afraid, but when faced with these issues you must fight and overcome your trials, with faith and the word of the lord.

One of the most wonderful gifts I have ever received was my faith in Christ Jesus. Because of my faith in Jesus, I have truly been blessed physically and spiritually. Faith in God can break a stronghold or restore and mend the broken peaces of your life. It only takes a heartfelt prayer unto God giving him the situation whatever it may be, and from that moment truly expecting a change.

Word of Wisdom: Thanking God in spite of it all

The word is as old as the world itself, it being with God since the fountain of existence. The word of the lord is truth, the light that shines over our lives, wiping away the darkness. We must remember, while in our situations to reflect upon the word and upon the truth and promises of the Heavenly father. In him will we find good rest, accepting our trials, and thanking God in spite of it all.

Word of Wisdom: Freeing the mind and soul

Have you ever been put in a position, that seemed so unbearable at the time, that you were just too tired, too upset, and too impatient to wait? Well, we've all been there at some point or another, looking for a quick and easy way out, but what I've learned, is to let God decide, giving him our problems and waiting for his call. He knows best, and he knows when we are ready... So the next time you began to feel uneasy and stressed, don't... Just remember, when we're ready, God will grant the desires of our hearts, removing the chains that bind,  freeing the mind and soul.

COLUMN: Our Daily Bread

Food is a necessity that is ultimately essential to the body’s health and growth. The intake and digestion of the proper nutrients in one’s body can help defend and build resistance against bacterial infections and harmful substances. Much like our physical needs, the nourishment and prosperity from a more “Devine” perspective must also retain the same attributes.

Many individuals focus on primarily the needs of the body and not of the soul. The soul is quite significant and plays an important part in our ultimate destiny with Christ. The physical needs and ambitions are indeed important to some extent, but the spiritual and emotional connection with God must also be established and constantly acknowledged throughout one‘s life.

We must learn to meet our spiritual needs and put our personal lives on the proverbial back burner, if you will. Having a stronger connection to God and to Christ, can ultimately mold and substantially shape the future you, me or any individual persistently works to assure.

God exists, after the great mountains have crumbled and the outstretching sea’s have diminished and dried. His grace is everlasting and his gifts never actually stop giving. In him we all are to entrust our hearts, our lives, but ultimately our souls. Furthermore, faith and the word of the lord is our connection to such wealth and riches numbered greater than any material pleasure found on earth.

God hears our cries of international depression, poverty, freedom and genocide, but asks only for faith in return for his rewards. Truly excepting Christ is partly the binding tie that is threaded into our garments of Christianity and righteousness. Other aspects must be met and explored in-depth through God’s Holy word in order to understand and discern the entire meaning.

The same holds true to our modern day practices exhibited in college or in high school. Professors and Instructors teach willingly through their daily lectures and lessons, leaving the learning and comprehending process ultimately up to their students. The textbooks in which they use are indeed the foundation of the class or course in which they teach. The same is no more or less relevant to God and his scriptures which are found in the Holy Bible.

We are as believers, saved because of the redemptive works of Christ on the cross, but redemption is only the gift given freely to those who are willing to accept it. As said before, excepting is indeed the start of one’s spiritual journey to heaven and to Christ, but to gain wisdom, assurance, prosperity and a solid unwavering relationship with the heavenly father, is ultimately formed through long-suffering, worship and consecration.

Following Gods will and obeying his commandments are profoundly what defines an individual as a Christian and the means in which one is given unto. If our lives, minds hearts and souls line up in accordance to the sum of those who were given favor in the sight of God, creator of the universe, “how are we or our times in anyway less important?”

It’s not entirely a question of what shall we eat, but in whom should we serve, ultimately filling and satisfying our spiritual hunger with Gods word, which is and always will be, our daily bread.

Praise & Worship Post: Here In My Life

The international Contemporary Christian band Hillsong United, praises at the Hillsong Church with thousands gathered for one reason, to give thanks to the Lord... Word of Wisdom: We Must Be Willing

In life you meet people who you would like to spend your entire life with, but sometimes there's people who we just don't seem to care for... This is obviously, wrong according to Christ's standards, and we won't make it to heaven that way either. We must learn to love, as Christ loves. Regardless our misdeeds or shortcomings he doesn't care for us any less... so consider reconnecting with that old friend, or distant family member. Forgiveness is something we all must learn, but how can we, if we're not willing. It's something to seriously think about.

Quote Of The Day: Gods Grace Will Follow

"Faith has the power to renew, rebuild, and restore. It can be the solid foundation of your life that will remain unshaken by the trials of the world, that is if you only believe. Believing is all in the same, the connection to faith. Once you believe, you can develop stronger faith, which as the bible clearly states, can move mountains... Look deeper friend, into your heat and discover God's will for your life. The destination is limitless, the path is laid, all you have to do is trust and Gods grace will follow."

COLUMN: Learning How To Ride Again

She lifted her head, her long, brownish-blonde strands of hair, covering her dirty but beautiful little face. Her mother at her side, removes a cloth from her pocket, wiping away the smudges and precious tears, revealing the rosy red cheeks of her young daughter.

“Try again,” encourages her mother… She grabs hold to her mothers hand, outstretched willingly for support, encouragement and a second chance. I don’t often visit this green, peaceful, and historical old park on the outskirts of a Texas town, but whenever I‘m led there, I always learn something worth remembering, or I am reminded of something important I’ve unintentionally forgot.

The lessons of life, may not always come in the way we all expect them, but I have found, that they are what we all need, to grow and lead better lives. Forgetting how to ride for this little girl, in a local park in town, was due to the lack of training wheels on her bicycle. I’m sure, her mother had great attentions, but her daughter sustained a bump or two, in which she did learn from her pain.

The young girl, had all but forgot the know-how of riding, that many normal, everyday children her age are accustom to practicing. She had been away from this custom for quite sometime, but she was interested in continuing where she had formerly left off.

Since visiting that old park, I have taken the lessons that I once learned, and compared them to my now, spiritual perspective. I learned that God takes us through for a reason, a reason that for many is unclear, but not undiscoverable. In our time of trouble or temptation, we do fall, but in that time, we must also learn to get back up.

Once we have learned from our mistakes, then and only then, will we overcome and rise above the tests. God must allow us to see what we are unwilling to acknowledge, the sins we commit and the unfruitful seeds we sow.

That little girl did fall more than twice, but she did as her mother instructed and tried until she was successful. Sitting and observing was the best thing I could have done, and I recommend the same to you as well. So many of life’s lessons can be found in the pleasures of your daily routine, if you just take the time to look.

God gives us signs, hidden messages to prosper in his word and carry out his will. He only want’s what’s best for us, a connection with him everlasting. Our lives are molded and shaped for the better because of it. We ponder what path we could have traveled if only, we had taken it when it was clear, but the true path that we all must take, is the one that our feet is presently set upon.

God doesn’t make mistakes, nor does he turn his face from our cries for help, but there are lessons he wishes us to learn, before we are ready for our ultimate destiny. Getting up when you have been down, is only the beginning, but when we fall, we must do as the little girl in the park, taking the hand where help is given, learning how to ride again.
